The Australian Open design was centred around the idea of creating a signature event pavilion away from the Australian Open at Margaret Court Arena. This signature event was placed across Southern Cross lane, and incorporated the theme of Melbourne laneways to tie in with a sense of Australian Open identity. Therefore, to create that transition, the idea of creating a bar/eatery called AO Urban was incorporated to further create homage to its homeland as Melbourne is known for its food and nightlife, and is one of the most popular areas within the AO design at the tennis currently.
This design concept was also able to target a younger demographic, through interactive elements and a vibrant and youthful vibe which is needed to keep interest in the AO and created locally through utilising Melbourne street artists to further its urban theme. This sustainability factor was also addressed through obtaining milk crates within the city which are then given to cafes/restaurants all around Melbourne once the event had ended to emphasise a reusable life cycle.
